We know what you’re thinking, designers love nothing more than indulging their creative whims. So it’s probably best to just leave them to it, right? Well, as much as we would love to show off everything we can do – that’s not really the point is it? When you come to us, it’s because you have a good idea of what you want – and that’s the idea we want to work to realise.
We just need a little bit of help from you first – in the form of a design brief. Include the information below, and you’ll go straight to the top of our favourite clients list:
Main Objectives and Goals
The first thing we need to know is what you want from the new design. Is this a redesign or reworking; or a completely new design? By nailing down what your overall goals are we can ensure that the design we create is one you’ll be satisfied with.
Schedule
Almost as important as budget! Whilst we’re sure you would like it ASAP – we’re certain you’d rather it was perfect first. Good design takes time, but if there are specific deadlines – tell us. We’ll do everything we can to meet them or offer alternative solutions.
Target audience
Who are you appealing to? Where will your product be sold? Who are your top competitors? If you aren’t sure, describe your ideal customer to us. Don’t worry if there’s more than one – leave it to us. As experienced designers, we’re more than capable of creating something that appeals to more than one demographic.
Expected Sales
We know that you’d like to sell as many products as possible… but we’ll need you to be a little bit more specific. Design to manufacture 50 items vs. 50,000 items is a very different process. We need to know as early as possible so that the design is the most suitable for the eventual manufacturing process.
Overall Style
If this is a completely fresh idea and you want us to brainstorm brand new designs – great let’s go! Of course, this may not be the first product in your range. What are your brand values and should they apply to your new product? Or are there specific materials you need us to use?
What don’t you want?
Of course we want to know what you would like; but what you definitely don’t want is equally as important! Letting us know at the start will save us from designing features you’ll ultimately reject.
Budget
Down to the money! We know, we know – you may not want to share your budget before we quote. But knowing ahead of time what kind of budget you have (and the target retail cost) we can tailor our services to give you the most benefit for your money.
These are just a few of the tips we provide our new clients with. If you’re interested in starting a project with us, get in touch. We’ll forward our full Concept Design Specification sheet straight over to you.
